After a successful first year with our program, we are excited to kick off the EDGE program once again. Eagle E.D.G.E (Eagle Dads Getting Engaged) is a program that will help get dads involved in their children’s school in a fun and easy form of volunteering. It will only take 30 minutes of your morning, but those 30 minutes can make all the difference in a Sharon Eagle’s life. The program consists of dads running the carpool lane in the morning. This year we have decided to further involve family members by extending an invitation to grandfathers or any other male family member.
Volunteers will greet the children as they enter the school, help control the flow of traffic, assist children out of the vehicles, and control traffic to allow staff, children, and parents to cross the carpool lane safely. By volunteering your time, it will also allow staff members extra time in the morning to prepare for the school day. The program will run from 7:25 A.M – 8:00 A.M. We are starting with doing every Thursday and Friday, but if we can get enough interest, we hope to add more days to help the staff as much as we can.

Research from a U.S. Department of Education study indicates that the role of fathers in school helps with the achievement of children. Research found that the children from two-parent homes where fathers participated in activities (such as school meetings; parent-teacher conferences; school or child care activities or events; or volunteerism) were more likely to receive higher grades, participate in extracurricular activities, and be happier in a child care or school setting.
