Thank you for helping make FLY have a record-breaking year, we could not be more proud of our results! We have raised over $68,000 for Sharon School so far this year, 100% of the money raised will go toward field trips, playground improvements, classroom supplies, student activities, technology and much more. 70% of our Eagles read and practiced math for 31,529 hours this summer! Amazing!
The Prize Pep Rally was a lot of fun and a celebration of the student’s hard work! We raffled off over 70 prizes (see list below) and are grateful to all our sponsors for their generosity and support of Sharon School. The students were so excited for each winner cheering loudly for them all. It was a great day to be a Sharon Eagle.

The Sharon teachers appreciate FLY as well, see their comments below:
“Fly means; an opportunity to engage families and the community in our school; allowing families and the community to see how important reading and math are; encouraging students to be life-long learners; supporting the needs of teachers and their classroom; supporting the needs of our diverse population of students.”
-Erica Gaske, 2nd grade
“Sharon’s PTA Sponsored Fly Fundraising Program represents our Sharon School ideals and the attitudes that we want to instill in all our Sharon Eagles: that hard work is important; that all students need to be invested in their own learning and that communities work together for the betterment and success of our schools.
FLY has by far been the most successful fundraising program since I have been at Sharon. All students can participate equally and all efforts are rewarded. But not only are students personally working towards a goal; they also see their peers working towards that same goal. It is such an amazing sight to see students at the rally cheering their peers and their accomplishments. It brings home that Sharon is a community of students that work towards personal goals as well as sharing the successes of others. And FLY is effective in keeping students’ reading and math skills on track during the summer months.
The money FLY raises helps me as a teacher by funding educational materials, online programs, and our field trips to Old Salem’s Colonial Village and Raleigh Government Center. All enrich our students’ experiences and learning. Thank you to all the parent volunteers, community members and our own Sharon Eagles for continuing to make FLY, well- FLY!
F – Family Involvement
L- Local Community Outreach and Support
Y- Year long progress for Sharon Students”
-Lisa M. Dervishian, 4th Grade
“For me as a 5th grade teacher, FLY sets the tone at Sharon we are a school that reads and keeps our math skills sharp even in the summer. We are therefore, lifelong learners who don’t care if it is the school year or the summer–we WANT to continue to learn.
Also, I know this money that is collected also benefits me directly in the classroom with my wish list items at the end of the year. It is pretty simple– could not teach without my scholastic reading materials! These are high quality materials that keep my students engaged.
Finally, our 5th graders take a fantastic trip toward the end of the year. This trip would not be possible without the financial support of FLY. Some of our students would never be able to see a bald eagle or dolphins or crabs or a aircraft carrier if it wasn’t for FLY. I wish you all could see them on this trip—it builds lifetime memories of Sharon for them.”
-Cathy Conner, 5th Grade
Lastly, we couldn’t do this without our great committee, thank you to Mary Hamid, Becca Klamforth, Michelle Hochstrasser, Lisa Landrum, Emily Carroll, Julie Grahl, Ann Luszcz, Cecelia McNorrill, Beth Devitt, and Mary Lauren Kennedy.
